What Hoop collects, and why
Hoop takes data privacy very seriously. We collect only what the app needs to function — nothing more. Here’s the short version.
with your data
in transit
any data request
- 1👤 Name — To display your name in the app and to share it with the driver/owner when a booking is made, so both parties can identify and contact each other.
- 2✉️ Email Address — For Hoop to contact you when required — app releases, T&C changes, Privacy Policy changes, or account notices.
- 3📱 Phone Number — Shared between driver and owner once a booking is confirmed, so they can contact each other directly.
- 4🏠 Physical Address — For owners to display their parking spot in listings when drivers search for parking nearby.
- 5📍 Location — To find suitable parking spots during search, and to pin an exact spot location when owners create a listing.
- 6📸 Photos — Owners upload photos of their parking spot. These are displayed to drivers when searching for spots to book.
We assure you that none of the above can be accessed by any party other than individuals who are part of Hoop Inc.
01 / Data Collection
What data we collect
We collect the minimum amount of information needed to make Hoop work well for you. Here’s exactly what that includes.
- Name — Displayed inside the app so drivers and owners can identify each other during a booking. It builds the trust that makes a stranger’s driveway feel safe to use.
- Email address — Used to contact you for important app updates, account notices, Terms & Conditions changes, or Privacy Policy changes. We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
- Phone number — Shared between driver and owner once a booking is confirmed. Your number is not visible to anyone else on the platform.
- Physical address (owners only) — The address of your spot is stored and shown to drivers searching nearby. This is the core of how the app works — drivers need to know where to go.
- Location (while using the app) — Accessed to find parking spots near your destination, and to help owners pin exact spot locations when listing. Location is only accessed while the app is actively in use — never in the background.
- Photos (owners only) — Stored securely and displayed on the listing page so drivers can see exactly what they’re booking.
- Booking & transaction history — A record of confirmed bookings is kept for dispute resolution, support, and ensuring the accuracy of reviews and ratings.
- Device & usage information — Basic technical data (device type, OS version, app version) to fix bugs and ensure the app works across devices. We do not track individual browsing behaviour or build advertising profiles.
02 / Purpose of Use
Why we collect it
Every piece of data has a specific and legitimate reason. No data is collected “just in case.”
- To power core app features — search, booking, spot listing, navigation, and in-app communication all depend on the data you provide.
- To connect drivers and owners — sharing your name and phone number with the other party in a confirmed booking is fundamental to how Hoop works.
- To keep you informed — we use your email for important updates about the app, your account, or changes to our terms and policies.
- To resolve disputes — booking records and communication logs may be reviewed by our support team when a dispute is raised.
- To improve the app — anonymised usage data helps us understand what’s working and what needs attention.
- To maintain safety and security — account data helps detect suspicious activity, prevent fraud, and protect our community.
03 / Data Access
Who can see your data
We are deliberate and limited about who has access to your information.
- The other party in a confirmed booking — your name and phone number are shared with the driver (if you’re an owner) or the owner (if you’re a driver). This is limited to confirmed bookings only.
- Hoop Inc. team members — authorised individuals within Hoop Inc. may access your data strictly for support, dispute resolution, and app operations. Access is limited and logged internally.
- No third parties, ever — we do not sell, rent, license, or trade your personal information with any third-party companies, advertisers, or data brokers. Full stop.
- Legal obligations — in the rare event we are legally required to disclose data (e.g. by court order), we will comply with applicable law and notify you where permitted.
04 / Storage & Security
How your data is stored
Your data is protected using industry-standard practices — here’s what that means in plain English.
- Encryption in transit — all data between the Hoop app and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Your data is never sent over an unencrypted connection.
- Secure storage — data is held on secure servers with access controls, authentication, and monitoring. We use trusted cloud infrastructure providers.
- Role-based access — not everyone at Hoop can see your data. Internal access is strictly limited, role-based, and audited.
- Breach notification — in the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law, as quickly as possible.
05 / Retention
How long we keep your data
We don’t hold onto your data longer than necessary.
- Active accounts — data is retained for as long as your Hoop account is active and you are using the app.
- Account deletion — if you delete your account, we remove your personal data from active systems within a reasonable timeframe. Some anonymised, non-identifying aggregated data may be retained for analytical purposes.
- Dispute and legal holds — where data is needed to resolve an active dispute or satisfy a legal obligation, we may retain relevant records beyond the standard period, after which it will be deleted.
06 / Your Rights
Your rights over your data
You have real control over your information. Here’s what you can ask us to do — just email us.
- Right to access — you can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you at any time.
- Right to correction — if any of your data is inaccurate or out of date, update it in the app or ask us to correct it.
- Right to deletion — you can request deletion of your account and personal data. We’ll honour this promptly, subject to legal hold requirements.
- Right to object — you can object to certain types of processing. If you have concerns, contact us and we’ll address them.
- Right to portability — you can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format so you can take it elsewhere.
